Hola!
We are really excited about some opportunities coming up to take action in the fight against hunger.
First, we will be volunteering at the Second Harvest Food Bank here in Madison on Saturday June 30th from 12:00- 3 pm. If you are interested, please let us know at madison@oxfamactioncorps.org. We will probably be meeting around 11:30 to drive over (it’s on the East Side).
Next, there will be opportunities to table at the Saturday Dane County Farmer’s Market starting next Saturday. Tabling consists of learning more about Oxfam yourself, and then talking to others about Oxfam and collecting signatures. A lot of people- myself included- really enjoy tabling, so you should give it a try! You can email us if you would like volunteer!
The final upcoming event I wanted to mention is our meeting on July 10th. We will be meeting at 7 pm at Fair Trade Coffee House at 418 State Street. Please come learn more about Oxfam and voice any suggestions for the year, perhaps while enjoying a delicious drink or baked good. The chai lattes are wonderful! We hope to see you there!
In Oxfam news, the Farm Bill was passed in the Senate! This bill takes exciting steps toward improving our food aid system. We will keep you updated on this bill’s progress. The bill is far from perfect, however. In response to the passage of the bill, Gawain Kripke, director of policy and research for Oxfam America, said: “The Senate Farm Bill takes positive steps to reform international food aid programs. We commend Chairman Stabenow and Ranking Senator Roberts for their leadership to ensure that the tiny sliver of Farm Bill funds that go to international food aid has the greatest impact possible… Overall, the Farm Bill continues to create serious problems by subsidizing big agribusiness at the expense of poor farmers and taxpayers."

See you at the Farmer's Market!
